Happy New Year to all!   I also hope that the entire Legion family had a very joyous Christmas and holiday season. December was a very busy month at the Post. The Pearl Harbor Bull & Oyster Roast was a success. Many thanks go out to the committee, Andy & Carol Keller, Maude Smith, and Gordon Weedon. The children’s Christmas party had a huge turnout. The SAL organized a visit to Charlotte Hall. The Junior Auxiliary made a trip to a local nursing home and the Post hosted Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve parties.

Due to the delay of last month’s newsletter being sent out by our printer, the vote on the proposed By-Laws changes did not take place at our December meeting. The vote on these proposed changes will now be at the upcoming meeting on January 9th.

We are still looking for suggestions from the membership on what we can do to improve the lounge area. Please pass along any suggestions, or even volunteer to serve on a committee to review the suggestions and make recommendations to the Post. It was discussed and agreed upon at the December meeting that the proceeds from the 50/50’s and lay downs on Friday and Saturday evenings will be designated to contribute to purchasing some new televisions for the lounge.

In support of the Department of Maryland, we have pins on sale on the lounge for $2.00 to support the Epilepsy Foundation. Please consider purchasing one of these pins. They have the American Legion emblem on them as well as mentioning the Epilepsy Foundation. These pins are appropriate for your Legion cap or as a lapel pin. We are also expecting the arrival of a new supply of Post 40 license plates. These will be available for purchase in the lounge at a cost of $5.00 each.

We need your help to reach our membership goal. Please send in your dues renewal if you haven’t yet done so.

A sign up sheet for the first six months of 2008 is now posted in the lounge for volunteers for the Friday night dinners. Please consider volunteering.

As always, don’t forget to say a prayer for our troops.

For God and Country,
Norm Mason, Commander
